3 Drown In Pursuit Of Suspected Rapist

Tragedy occurred in Osogbo, Osun State capital when three persons drowned inside Osun River.
The incident occurred around 3pm at Zone 10 Area of Dada Estate near Osun River.
It was gathered that a man identified as Toeb Agbaje, 28, of number 28 Alekunwodo Street, attempted to rape a minor of 15 years when the victim raised alarm which attracted nearby people and parents of the young girl.
The suspect on noticing that people were trying to arrest him, jumped into Osun River and swum across to the other side.
The father of the girl and two other persons in an attempt to arrest the suspect jumped into the river after the suspect, but since then their whereabouts is yet to be known.
Fortunately, the suspect was arrested by some detectives where he was trying to dry his cloths after emerging from the river.



The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs. Folake Odoro, confirmed the incident and said that efforts are on to recover the bodies of the drowned people.
She said that police detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer Ataoja immediately led a team of police rescue operations to the scene for rescue operation where the suspect was later arrested.
She linked the incident to the high water volume in the river, saying that the rescue team is seriously searching for the bodies of three persons at the time of filling this report.
The Commissioner for Police, Mrs. Dorothy Gimba, when contacted said she had ordered diligent investigation on the incident urged all concerned parties to be calm and not to take the law into their hands.
She assured that the police would intensify effort to unravel all circumstances surrounding the incident.
