The father of a 16-year-old girl (name withheld) is
seeking the arrest and prosecution of a school proprietor, who he accused of
defiling his daughter five years ago.

The man, who is also a British citizen, Moses
Danwanu, alleged that the proprietor of the school, where he registered his
children during their elementary school days, had a carnal knowledge of his
daughter when she was in primary five.
According to the London-based father, the school
proprietor took advantage of his closeness to him (the father) to threaten his
daughter not to disclose the deed to anybody.
The father of three also alleged that the school
proprietor threatened to harm his daughter should she attempt to reveal the
secret.
“The sad
incident occurred in 2009 when my daughter was only 11 years old. I am based in
London and their mother is from Sierra Leone, although we have been separated. My
three daughters stay with their grandparents while I provide for their
financial needs from my base in London. I took them to that school because I
felt that it was the best in this village. I never knew that my child was being
destroyed by the same person I was paying to build her up”, he said.
On
how he got to know after five years, he said, “My eldest daughter got admission to study Medicine in Ukraine. When
she was about leaving, she called her sisters and began to counsel them. It was
in the process that my daughter that was abused opened up. She (the victim)
told her sister that she had been carrying the burden for years and did not
know who to share her problems with. “My eldest daughter insisted on telling me
and I immediately returned to Nigeria to seek justice for my daughter like it
is done in other parts of the world. When I reported the matter to the police
here in Nigeria, I was told that there was no evidence to prosecute the school
proprietor since the incident happened five years ago. I am no more fighting
this cause for my daughter’s sake alone, but for the sake of other innocent
victims that are still going through such situation. I set out to prove that
the school proprietor, David, is a paedophile. My last daughter arranged with
her friend who is also a former student of the school and they approached him
under the guise of wanting to collect their result. Again he started asking my
daughter out without knowing that the conversation was being recorded. They
exchanged contacts and my daughter gave him my phone number on the condition
that they should only communicate via Whatsapp and text messages, which he
agreed to. These are some of the disturbing texts he has been sending to my
daughter (displaying some of their previous conversations on Whatsapp). “I have
been playing along, communicating with him in guise of being my daughter”.
Recounting her experience, the victim, said, “We usually go to his house to help him out
with one thing or the other. On that fateful day, he took us to his house to
carry some books to school. When we got there, he asked me to stay behind,
while others left with the books. Then he locked the door and….”
At this point, the girl broke down in tears and
could not continue with the interview despite our correspondent’s promptings.
Her father said it was obvious that she had yet to
get over the trauma of being raped by the proprietor.
But the school proprietor denied the allegation,
saying it was all false. “I don’t know
what you are talking about, I can even swear to that. How old is she? It’s all
a lie,” he said.
When questioned about the recorded conversation and
the messages on Whatsapp, he insisted that it was false. “I am not that kind of person, in fact, I am going to their house right
away,” he added.
