The Police in Niger on
Tuesday arrested a 25-year-old man over allegation of forcefully having canal
knowledge of a 3-year-old girl.
The suspect was a next door
neighbour to the victim's family at Angwan Daji, Minna in Chanchaga Local
Government Area.
The suspect was alleged to
have lured the little girl into the premises of Nuru Islam Primary School to
rape her.
The cry of the little girl
was said to have attracted passers-by to the scene, who caught the suspect in
the act.
It was further learnt that
the suspect was handed over to the Police at Chanchaga Divisional Police
Station for prosecution .
The Police Public Relations
Officer, ASP Richard Oguche, confirmed the arrest, saying investigation into the case was almost
completed.
He said the police were
waiting for the medical report conducted on the victim.
He said the suspect would
soon be charged to Court, noting that his confession to the crime was not
substantial enough.
He added that the homicide
detectives were still gathering more evidences that could assist the police in
the prosecution of the suspect.
Oguche described the suspect
as a serial rapist, going by the information allegedly given to the police by
some concerned residents of Angwan Daji in Minna.
