A 37-year-old man, Monday Okoh, has been
accused of raping a nine-year-old girl (name withheld).
The police said Okoh, in the process of
defiling the minor, who was his neighbour's daughter, injured her in the
forehead and damaged her lower limbs.
It was learnt that the incident happened on
Onifade Street, Aboru-Ipaja area of Lagos State.
After the act was discovered, the suspect was
handed over to the police.
He was arraigned on Monday before an Ebute Meta
Chief Magistrate's Court on three counts.
The charge reads, "That you, Monday Okoh,
on June 15, 2014, at about 8pm, at Onifade Street, Aboru, Iyana-Ipaja Lagos in
the Lagos Magisterial District, did indecently assault one (nane witheld), aged
9 years, with intent to have carnal Knowledge of her and cause her bruises on
her forehead and lower limbs.
The police prosecutor, DSP Etim Ekankuk, said
the offences were punishable under sections 134, 137 and 135 of the Law of
Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the
charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A.A. Demi-Ajayi,
admitted him to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till September 17.
