A 40-year-old man, (name withheld) has been arrested
by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly raping his eight-year-old
stepdaughter at Okpanam, in the Oshimili North Local Government Area of the
state.
He was reported to the police by his 30-year-old
ex-wife, who is the mother of the victim.
It was gathered that he allegedly started raping the
eight-year-old victim, a primary II pupil, since she was four years old.
According to the information gathered by Vanguard
Newspaper from the mother of the victim, she had three children for the suspect
before they parted ways about three years ago.
She said she first noticed something was amiss one
evening four years ago while she was giving the victim a bath after returning
from work.
According to her she noticed that there was blood
coming out of the little girl’s private parts.
On asking the little girl what happened to her, the
mother said, the victim initially refused to talk, but after spanking her, she
allegedly confessed that, her stepfather was the one who raped her when she was
in his house.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer for
the command, Celestina Kalu, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, adding that
he was being kept at the Okpanam Police State.
