A 25-year-old, Christopher Ogbeide, who allegedly
raped a teenage girl, was on Tuesday remanded in Kirikiri Prisons on the order
of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, who gave
the order, said the accused should remain behind bars pending when his bail
application would be filed and argued.
Vanguard Newspaper reports that the accused, an
unemployed, who lives at 52, Adewale Adegun St., off College Road,
Ifako-Ijaiye, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for rape. Earlier, the
prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan told the court that the offence was
committed on Feb. 14 and 29 at the accused’s residence.
According to him, both the accused and the
13-year-old girl, live in the same compound. “The accused called the girl into
his room on Feb. 14 on the pretext of sending her on an errand and raped her.
“The accused also called the girl on Feb. 29 into
his room to rape her again but was unlucky as one of the neighbours heard the
girl’s groaning and called her mother,” he said.
The offence, according to the prosecutor,
contravenes Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty. The case was
adjourned to March 23.
