The Police in Kaduna State
have warned rapists and other criminals to leave the State or face the music of
law.
The Police Public Relations
Officer (PPRO) of the Command, ASP Aliyu Usman, gave the warning on Friday in
Kaduna while fielding questions from newsmen.
He assured residents that
rape cases would continue to receive proper investigation and prosecution with
a view to ending the crime.
“Our well trained
prosecutors have been prosecuting rape cases diligently and they have been
securing conviction,” Usman said.
According to him, suspected
rapists were always charged before Magistrates Court on holding charge pending
advice from the State Ministry of Justice.
“On the process of the prosecution of the case
files are duplicated and sent to the Ministry of Justice for legal advice.
“Immediately we receive the
advice, we take the original copies of the case files to court and the charges
will be referred to a High Court for prosecution,” he said.
Vanguard reports that Usman
said so far all cases of rape have been prosecuted successfully.
He said the Kaduna State
Government is supporting the police on its effort to rid the state of rapists
and other criminal related offences.
“When punishments are meted
on the criminal it will serve as a deterrent to others which will reduce the
crime rate in the society,” Usman said.
The spokesman said some of
the challenges police faced on rape cases during investigation was the attitude
of the victim and their parents.
“Some of them don’t want to
cooperate during investigation while others don’t want to report the case to
the police due to stigmatisation that may follow.
“We encourage the parents
and the victims to always report to us such cases, our investigators are
professionals in discharging their duties.
“Rape is a serious criminal
offence, that is why we have special section in the command dedicated to
investigating rape cases,” Usman said.
