The suspect allegedly committed the offence in
October 2015, while his wife and mother of the victim, Bunmi, was not at home.
According to the mother, who had been married
to the suspect for the past six years without any child, the suspect took to
his heels after confessing to the crime.
Bunmi explained that she discovered that the
girl was five months pregnant last week.
She said, “When I asked her who was responsible
for the pregnancy, she started crying, saying if she told me she would die. I
took her to my pastor and after much pressure, she confessed that it was my
husband.
“She told my pastor that when I was not around,
my husband entered into her room with a machete and raped her.
“After the rape, my child said he brought out a
red handkerchief and warned her not to tell anybody or else she would die.”
The police spokesman, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the
suspect had yet to be arrested, adding that investigation into the matter was
still ongoing.
